Geger Beach
Geger Beach

This is the public beach in Nusa Dua. This splendid white sand beach at the western edge of the enclave retains lots of the character that is missing in the sanitized Nusa Dua resort zone. Generally safe for swimming and some beach side warungs.

The restaurant, beachbeds and massage ladys all work for the local cooperative.

By suporting them you support the locals. Geger has a cooling breeze as it is one of the few beaches facing east and Because ofv the reef far out from the beach it has some of the warmest water Temperatures in Bali.

Head Westwards out of the Nusa Dua enclave passing the golf course and then the St. Regis Hotel (on your left). Shortly after the St Regis, take the first turning left towards to the beach and proceed to the beach car park Geger

Balangan Beach is one of the Bukit Peninsula surf spots located just north of New Kuta Beach.

With its clear blue waves, white sandy beach and easy access, Balangan is not as crowded as Kuta or other surfing beach in Bali. In the north coast, there is a rocky hill which we can see fishing boats returning from sea to shore of Kedonganan.

Get to Balangan Beach

From Kuta, take the Bypass Ngurah Rai towards Nusa Dua. Look for the Uluwatu turn off to the right after about 10 minutes, after which, keep your eyes peeled for signs that direct you to Balangan.

3. Bias Tugal Beach

Bias Tugal Beach
Bias Tugal Beach

Also called Pantai Kecil (Little Beach), is a beautiful white sandy beach and the best beach in Padang Bai.

Good for swimming, though the currents can be strong. There are several restaurants, but they are not very good. The beach is surrounded by a monstrous, unfinished resort.

To reach the secluded Bias Tegul Beach, walk from the police station for 100 metres up the hill. Directly after Bamboo Paradise turn left (there's a sign that says Bias Tegul) and climb the steep hill along a construction road for about 5 minutes and then descend.

Be careful going down on the hillside track. While descending - weather permitting - you should be able to see the largest mountain on Bali, Mount Agung on your left - a powerful sight. If you continue over the hill and follow the road, you will eventually come to a long, white sand beach.

Get to Bias Tugal Beach

From the ferry terminal of Padang Bai, head east up the hill and keep walking till you come across an exposed bit of the bay.

4. Amed Beach

Amed Beach
Amed Beach

Situated about two hours drive from Ngurah Rai International Airport is Amed, where the sand is of the coarse black volcanic variety.

Instead of surfers and surf boards out on the water, the beach is lined with traditional outrigger fishing boats.

Those who venture up to Amed are usually keen to get in some quality diving as there are a number of wrecks located at nearby Lipah Beach and Tulamben.

For snorkelers, the coral and underwater life in Amed is abundant.

While the prettiest bays are found at Jemeluk and Lipah, the whole stretch of coastline presents a different, more natural image of Bali where the locals' primary source of income lies in salt mining and fishing.

When night falls, take a walk on the beach and look up to the sky bathed in stars.

Get to Amed Beach

Turning east at the village of Culik which lies on the main east coast road from Karangasem to Singaraja. A taxi from the airport should cost 400,000 rupiah (US$44).

5. Ungasan Beach

Ungasan Beach
Ungasan Beach

This strip of beach situated on the southern most point of Bali is quite possibly the island’s prettiest.

The only catch is that it'll cost you to enjoy this little slice of paradise.

If you’re not staying at either the Karma Kandara resort or the neighboring Banyan Tree resort, the best way to access it is to spend a day at the popular Nammos Beach Club.

The entry fee of 250,000 rupiah (US$27) (fully redeemable for food and beverage) is a little cheeky, but the view from the inclinator that brings you 150 meters down the cliff-face to the beach is almost worth the fee alone.

Here, the sand is fine and delicate, the water, an intense azure color -- not too dissimilar from the Mediterranean -- and the waves roll in hard and evenly, forming pretty white patterns on the shoreline.

The best time to swim is before lunch when it is low tide and you can frolic at ease.

Later in the day, the waves become stronger, and the currents will sweep you across to the other beach, should you prefer a little more privacy and don’t mind the lack of deck chairs.

Warning: do not laugh off the yellow Wet Floor signs placed on the rocks, they’re placed there for good reason.

Go on a Monday when Nammos Beach Club screens a movie from 6:15 p.m., and if you really want to splurge, the Karma Kandara spa has a on-site beach sala.

Get to Ungasan Beach

A Bluebird taxi from Seminyak area should cost 150,000 (US$16) rupiah to Karma Kandara resort.
